Is organic meat and antibiotic-free meat the same thing?
I am looking to go all natural in all of my food areas, and right now I’m researching the most natural cold cuts I can get for sandwiches. I’m looking at www.applegatefarms.com right now, and they have both “organic” cold cuts and “antibiotic-free” cold cuts. Does organic encompass being antibiotic free? What is the difference between the two?
Also, do you have any suggestions for any other natural deli meats & where I can buy them?
No it is not. All certified organic meat comes from livestock that have not been given antibiotics but also organic livestock must be fed certified organic feed that is free of genetically modified grain, cannot be given hormones, must have daily access to the outdoors and pasture. Beef is from cattle that was never put on a feed lot
Antibiotic free animals may still be caged, are still fed GMO laced grain, with the exception of chicken , given artificial hormones. If you are talking beef organic beef is never taken to a feed lot to be fattened on corn and other “food” products like old candy, cardboard, etc..
There are different protocol at the slaughterhouse between organic and conventional
And when it comes to cold cuts and other processed food there will be different colorings, flavorings, preservatives depending on whether or not it is organic
It comes down to “antibiotic free” has zero standards, organic has a lot of regulation http://www.ams.usad.gov/nop
